About the scene
The Burg / Cigar City.
From Ybor warehouses to beach-town breweries, Tampa Bay never goes quiet. Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and the smaller towns in between all carry a piece of it. Downtown St. Pete is the current center of gravity: Jannus Live, the iconic open-air courtyard venue on First Avenue North, books the city's biggest run of touring jam, indie, alt, and electronic acts under the stars. The Palladium at St. Pete College handles the seated theatrical bookings, and Cage Brewing nearby has become a regular small-venue stop for scrappy indie bills.Read more ↓

In Tampa proper, Skipper's Smokehouse keeps the swampy outdoor-music tradition alive, with weekly residencies of local jam, blues, and reggae acts. Ybor City, the historic Cuban cigar district, is living through a changing of the guard: Crowbar, the district's last full-time music venue, wrapped a 20-year run in the summer of 2026, a loss the whole bay scene felt. The Ritz Ybor still handles the mid-major club tier on 7th Avenue, and the bars and one-off rooms around it keep smaller bookings alive while the district figures out its next act. Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa and the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre cover arena-tier touring in season. Dunedin's Moon Tower and Dunedin Brewery anchor the brewery-music scene out on the western side of the bay.
The dominant sound here is jam-blues-funk crossover, with strong reggae and beach-rock undertones from the proximity to the water. Local artist scenes lean heavily into the relaxed, groove-forward end of Americana and jam. Genre breadth otherwise runs the full spread: indie, electronic, hip-hop, country, hardcore, jazz. The Tampa Bay feed on Rager pulls shows from across the whole bay area (St. Pete, Tampa, Clearwater, Dunedin, Ybor) into one running list.
