Live music in Savannah this week

Savannah's music scene is small relative to the other cities on this list, but it punches above its weight — partly because of Savannah College of Art and Design's pull on the creative-class audience, and partly because the city is a natural tour stop between Charleston and Jacksonville for working acts. District Live, the riverfront venue at Plant Riverside, has anchored the city's mid-major touring calendar since opening. Victory North in the Starland District is the indie and Americana mainstay.

Congress Street Social Club and Barrelhouse South cover the downtown small-club slate — DJ nights, local indie, the occasional small touring act passing through. The Wormhole over on Bull Street is the longstanding DIY and punk anchor, with regular hip-hop and indie bookings. Good Times Jazz Bar in the Plant Riverside complex keeps jazz on the calendar most nights. The bigger end of the room scale runs through Enmarket Arena — the new downtown arena — and the Johnny Mercer Theatre at the Civic Center for arena-tier touring.

The city's musical character runs heavy on jazz, gospel, and the slow brass-blues traditions of the Coastal South, with a strong indie and DIY scene that feeds off SCAD's student population. Touring booking density is lower than the bigger Southeast cities but more consistent than you'd expect for the population — most weeks have a real show or two worth planning around. The Savannah feed on Rager keeps the District Live and Victory North bookings visible alongside the smaller-club slate.
